Plumstead Station – Step Free Access
Network Rail have submitted plans to improve the accessibility at Plumstead Station to the Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG). The plans include the destruction of the historic footbridge and major works to the main building housing the ticket office. There appears to be quite a bit of disruption and access issues for commuters during the work.
Although accessibility should be a key aim across the network, we feel that there is a more sympathetic solution to improve step free access that would also protect the heritage of the building and the footbridge. A scheme similar to the one installed at Denmark Hill Station could be a template for Plumstead Station and have a less of an impact on commuters during the works.
